DeLand Kia Donates Nearly $17,500 to

Fight Breast Cancer at Florida Hospital DeLand

DELAND, Fla., October 21, 2013[l1]  - On November 19, DeLand Kia presented Florida Hospital DeLand with a check for $17,470 to help fund screening mammograms and other breast cancer diagnostic services to local women in need.

Throughout October, the local car dealership contributed a portion of the proceeds from every car sold to the hospital.

"We are a part of this community and it is important that we give back and support our neighbors," said Dan O'Brien, DeLand Kia General Manager. "Florida Hospital's Pink Army is actively creating greater awareness about the life-saving benefits of annual mammograms and the importance early detection when fighting breast cancer. The funds raised by our community stay in our community and help provide mammograms to our neighbors who wouldn't otherwise be able to afford one. Ultimately, it seemed like a perfect fit for us."

The funds DeLand Kia donated will provide breast imaging, which includes screening and diagnostic mammograms, breast ultrasounds and breast MRIs, for women in need at Florida Hospital DeLand's Victoria Medical Park Women's Center. It will also be used to assist those recommended for breast biopsy, including biopsies under mammography, ultrasound or MRI guidance. Florida Hospital DeLand's Victoria Medical Park Women's Center is an American College of Radiology accredited Breast Imaging Center of Excellence and is located at 151 Victoria Commons Blvd. in DeLand.

"We truly appreciate Dan and the entire DeLand Kia team for their passion for the Pink Army," said Tim Cook, Florida Hospital DeLand CEO. "We are so grateful for their support; it will go a long way in helping local women in need obtain lifesaving breast cancer detection services."

O'Brien said that the initiative was so successful, they intend on repeating this next October.

"Our employees really pulled together and got behind this cause," he said. "Everyone enjoyed supporting the Florida Hospital Pink Army and we plan to do this each October for years to come in hopes of raising even more for the fight against breast cancer."

The Florida Hospital Pink Army campaign was launched in the fall of 2010 and is aimed at enlisting individuals to help create greater awareness about the life-saving benefits of annual mammograms and early detection. In its first year alone, the Pink Army enlisted more than 6,000 "soldiers" to battle breast cancer in Volusia and Flagler counties. Now, armed with more than 41,000 soldiers, the Pink Army movement has swept across the state, encouraging Central Floridians to join this important cause.
