Kia Soul vs. Toyota C-HR Comparison | Deland Kia

2019 Kia Soul vs 2019 Kia Toyota C-HR: A Comparison of Credible Crossovers

The Kia Soul means something to a variety of drivers and observers. While some observers see the Soul as a smaller hatchback with a unique design, others see it as a sporty crossover SUV with lots of urban flare for city drivers. We here at Deland Kia believe that the new Kia Soul fits both of these parameters in its own way, providing the interior space and versatility of an SUV with the smooth and simple driving quality of a hatchback. We decided to put the new Kia Soul to the test for your benefit and we compiled some research to see where this crossover hatchback SUV stands against another top competitor that fits the same profile description: the 2019 C-HR.

The all-new Kia Soul is located right here at Deland Kia on Woodland Boulevard in Deland, FL, less than an hour outside of Orlando.

Fuel Economy

The differences between these two crossovers begin immediately when we look at the fuel capacities of their respective engines. While both the Kia Soul and Toyota C-HR run on inline four-cylinder (I4) powertrain configurations, the Kia Soul ultimately holds a gallon more fuel than the Toyota C-HR. This difference may not seem noticeable, but frequent commuters to and from Ocala may notice the additional savings this space reflects. Likewise, the fuel economy of the Kia Soul is aided by its standard manual transmission and its lower curb weight of almost 2,800 pounds. The Toyota C-HR does not come available with manual transmission and this crossover weighs in at 3,300 pounds.

Interior Space

While both of these models are classified as hatchback wagons or crossover SUVs, the Kia Soul ultimately provides more space than you might expect from a compact crossover with over 100 cubic feet of passenger volume, resulting in ampler wiggle room for you, your copilot and your passengers. The Toyota C-HR is the smallest crossover in the Toyota lineup currently with a passenger volume of 83.8 cubic feet. Additionally, the Toyota C-HR falls behind in cargo volume with about 19 cubic feet to offer over the 24.2 cubic feet of the new Kia Soul, making the latter hatchback a more preferable choice when taking camping and surfing equipment out to Daytona Beach.

Price and Warranty

Along with its convenience, the Kia brand puts emphasis on long-term value with its cars, which is reflected in this new Kia Soul, which not only starts out at a great price, it offers some excellent protections and benefits to its drivers. Each Kia Soul brand comes backed by a 60-month/60,000-mile (whichever comes first) Basic Warranty as well as a 120-month/100,000-mile Powertrain Limited Warranty, both of which are provided through the Kia brand. The Toyota C-HR comes backed by Toyota's 36-month/36,000-mile basic new vehicle warranty, while its powertrain warranty lasts for 60 months or 60,000 miles. The starting price of the Kia Soul is over $3,000 less than that of the Toyota C-HR.

Safety Ratings

While both of these crossovers come from brands which are known for their excellent safety features, the Kia Soul ultimately has the higher advantage in safety thanks to its higher accolades through new car assessment programs (NCAPs) such as the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety IIHS. The Kia Soul stands as a 2019 Top Safety Pick by IIHS for achieving the highest ratings in most of its categories including small overlap front crashworthiness, front crash prevention, headlights, and roof strength. The Toyota C-HR missed out on the Top Safety Pick status as its headlight strength received the lowest "Poor" rating by IIHS.
