Fall Car Care Tips in DeLand, FL

With summer winding down and cooler weather on its way, autumn is the perfect time to catch up on your vehicle's maintenance. There are several ways you can prepare your vehicle for the months ahead, and we've listed a few of them below. Make sure your vehicle is ready for the change in season by following these four steps!

Top 4 Fall Tips

1. Tire Tread and Pressure

When the temperature falls, tires may lose one pound of pressure for every 10-degree Fahrenheit drop. Be sure to check your owner's manual for the proper tire pressure. It's a good idea to switch out your summer tires for all-season tires. To check the tread, here's a simple test: place a penny into the tread grooves and if all of Lincoln's head is showing, your treads are less than the recommended 2/32” of tread depth (according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) and should be replaced.

2. Battery

Because colder weather can wear down your car's battery, fall is a great time to check your battery. Make sure the battery connections are tight, clean and free of corrosion, and bring your car in for a battery test. If your battery is over three years old, it might be time to replace it to avoid any surprise battery failures.

3. Heating and Cooling

Check that your car's heating and cooling are in working order, not just for driver and passenger comfort, but for safety reasons as well.

4. Lights

Shorter days means you'll need to use your lights more often. Check all your lights to make sure they are in working order, including brake lights. If a bulb is out, be sure to replace it.
